1. What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a safe and simple treatment for exfoliating dead skin cells; it also rids the skin of the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). The technique is performed by using a sterile scalpel. The treatment makes your skin smooth and glowy, allowing products to penetrate more effectively, and also helps create a smooth makeup application.

2. What skin conditions and types are safe for dermaplaning?

All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning. Dermaplaning helps with fine lines, wrinkles, dull skin, pigmentation, and non-raised scarring. Dermaplaning can not be performed on active acne lesions, severely compromised skin textures, those on Accutane, or those who have had recent laser treatments.

3. What should I do before a dermaplane?

Do not use Retin-A or other exfoliating creams 72 hours prior to your treatment. Avoid sun tanning or tanning creams/sprays for at least a week before treatment. Patients who have had a recent chemical peel or other skin procedure, such as Botox or filler injections, should wait two weeks before undergoing dermaplaning. Patients should also refrain from waxing the skin to be treated for 72 hours prior to dermaplaning. Do not be out in the sun without sunscreen while your skin is healing.

4. How often can I get a dermaplane?

You can get a dermaplane every 3-4 Weeks.

5. When the hair is removed will it grow back thicker and faster?

No, the hair will grow back slowly in about 4 weeks and no different than it was previously.

6. Is dermaplaning painful?

Dermaplaning is not painful and most say it is a relaxing treatment. The sensation can be compared to shaving your legs.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that exfoliates and removes dry dead skin cells via a vacuum suction device. Microdermabrasion buffs off and smooths dead skin cells with fine crystals or a diamond tip.

2. What skin concerns does this treatment help with?

Comparable to dermaplaning, this treatment rejuvenates dull and dry skin. It targets:

3. How often can I get this treatment?

Microdermabrasion can be done every 3-4 weeks depending on your skin type and skin concerns. A lot of patients like to do a microdermabrasion treatment a few weeks after a chemical peel or microneedling treatment to rid the final flaking.

4. What is the downtime of this treatment?

Microdermabrasion has little to no downtime. You can expect to see some redness (due to the vacuum suction) after your treatment which will subside in a couple hours to a day. However, you will want to wear sunscreen after your treatment to protect your new layer of skin.
